Born in 1915, and a lifelong resident of Kamloops, BC , Mr. Farquharson was a distinguished member and generous supporter of the DCRA, and his resume as a Target Rifle shooter is quite notable. Among his many accomplishments were representing Canada at the Palma on five occasions, and being a member of numerous Canadian Rifle Teams to Bisley, including “the winningest of all teams” that captured the coveted Kolapore in 1951.
Despite his remarkable career as a shooter, Mr. Farquharson’s greatest legacy in shooting will likely be as the founding father of F-Class, which is the fastest growing long range target shooting sport in the world (and appropriately, is named in his honour). Since its nascence at British Columbia Rifle Association matches in the late 1980s, and through subsequent adoption at a national level by DCRA, F-Class has grown exponentially. In the years since the DCRA officially sanctioned it hundreds of new shooters of all ages have been drawn to compete in F-Class events at the club, provincial, and national level in Canada, and many thousands more around the world have taken up the sport of long range shooting. Add to that the many Target Rifle shooters, who like George, simply wanted to continue competing in a sport they love and found a way to do that through F-Class. This sport with humble, but very distinctly Canadian roots has grown to the point where it is now governed internationally by ICFRA, and in 2017 will have its 5th World Championships, hosted for the second time by the DCRA.
